Bay Area Hip Hop Sensation Chow Mane Delivers a Far East x West Coast Fusion in “SUN UP TO SUNDOWN”
August 31, 2022 - Off the heels of his epic collaboration with fellow rapper Dane Amar, Bay Area Hip Hop sensation Chow Mane delivers what he coins “an endless nightmare-like party” in a larger than life album entitled “SUN UP TO SUNDOWN”. A collaborative project with notable producers like Zuma, “SUN UP TO SUNDOWN” channels its inspiration from standalone moments in pop culture, rave music and popular music in Japan, China and Korea. Lyrically, the highly anticipated project pairs seamlessly with elements of west coast inspired production, creating a far east meets west coast fusion that his fans have grown to know and love. Having worked on the project with producer Zuma since 2020, you can witness the musical growth and expansion over a creative timeline of 2+ years, implementing their talents in new layers and subgenres.
The crossover of culture and subculture in both the west coast and Tokyo introduces a distinct Asian-influenced sonic aesthetic through unforgettable synths and percussion. Instead of the standard hyphy or LA gangster rap production, the two artists take things up a notch by incorporating a pop-friendly sound while still remaining true to their cultural and musical roots. On the surface, each song delivers a high energy vibe and while sometimes intense, the project delivers existential moments which ask the question “Why are we doing this?” buried under unforgettable bangers. The endless party vibe is something the industry knows all too well; thematically reminiscent of the famous Key & Peele sketch “When the Party Don’t Stop”, the feeling, while all too relatable, juggles exhaustion, comedy and a strong creative approach that stays 100% true to their vision for the final project.
About Chow Mane: Like a top chef, Bay Area rapper and producer Chow Mane is known for his diverse, unorthodox, but carefully crafted art. Sometimes sweet and sometimes bitter (but always tasty), the flavors in Chow Mane's music range from lighthearted and cheeky to melodic and sobering. Chow Mane combines infectious delivery, playful vocals, and complete soundscapes to create a fine balance between West Coast hip-hop, R&B and pop.
Chow Mane earned national recognition for his sonic versatility — being able to switch between the crooning storytelling in his nostalgic single “WOES IN THE 510” to the cultural wordplay in his viral hit “ABG.” Fans quickly latched onto Chow’s bouncy delivery and raspy vocals, and he produced a series of viral singles such as “Candy (What's The Word),” “Tasty!,” and “San Jose.” Soon enough, Chow began to prove his worldwide appeal, emerging in Asian and Latin American markets through collaborations with Bay Area artists like Guapdad 4000 and Lil B.
