September 10, 2021 - Rapper Chris Gabo kicks off a string of upcoming singles with the release of his high-energy hit “Hype Man”. Mixed by notable producer Dakari {G-Eazy, Bebe Rexha, etc}, “Hype Man” explores the juxtaposition of who we are as humans versus who we need to be to survive. On the track, Gabo delivers a brilliant contrast of light hearted verses with the intensity of dynamic production. Pointing out the idea that Hip Hop is perhaps the only career where artists are expected to be humble at home but arrogant in the workplace, he offers a unique glimpse into the intention behind what we see and what we let others see in ourselves. While analyzing the complexities of personality, Gabo uses the identity of the ‘hype man’ to serve as the part that rappers choose to let their fans see rather than who they truly are at the core. Complex rhyme patterns and undeniable lyrical prowess make his compelling storytelling that much more impressive. And his unique knack for storytelling goes far beyond his music. A Yale MFA graduate in playwriting, Gabo’s work has been recognized by the Sundance MENA Theatre Lab, the O'Neill National Playwrights Conference and much more.
Currently contracted to an overall deal with HBO, Chris has written six episodes for the recently aired reboot of In Treatment. Also acting as the consulting producer for The Weeknd’s show The Idol, Gabo’s involvement in music shares a seamless synergy with his background in film/TV. Past musical collaborations include Cakes Da Killa, Lazerbeak, DJ Trackstar of Run the Jewels, and more. He has opened for Ana Tijoux and DJ Rob Swift, while also licensing music to Hulu’s Broad City as well as the independent film Coldwater. His new anthem “Hype Man” calls out the irony of presenting yourself as one thing but not knowing who truly are; the lighthearted yet compelling hit delivers listeners a look into Gabo’s unique talent for storytelling as well as his perspective on the way that we write our own stories.
