Lorelei Marcell Explores Social Media’s Impact on Human Connection in “ANTISOCIAL”
8/25/2022 - Off the heels of her dynamic new EP, indie pop artist Lorelei Marcell continues the momentum of her monthly music releases with “ANTISOCIAL”. A commentary on our societies overdependence on social media, Lorelei dives deep with an existential critique of its effect on our collective psyche. With lyrics like “All my friends are different since we met. I forgot they only know me through the internet”, we are confronted with the stark reality of how dramatically social interaction has evolved….and not always for the better. In “ANTISOCIAL”, Lorelei confronts her struggle to find balance between managing to have a private life while also doing her diligence to maintain visibility for her fans. While posting is fun when it feels natural, it feels very forced when it’s not. And in a society driven by content, the pull to post can seem much more inorganic than originally intended.
“Now everyday I wake up, make up, wait I’m talking to a camera. Everyday’s an existential crisis, is this who I am now?” ~ “ANTISOCIAL”
In the track, we vibe to Lorelei’s signature pop melodies, brilliantly paired with hypnotizing harmonies and electronic elements that give it a ‘larger than life’ soundscape fit for the television screen. Craving human interaction and time away from her phone, Lorelei desires a healthier balance between managing both in-person and online relationships. The internet’s current influx of content has reached a point of inauthenticity yet, people keep craving more. We heavily rely on others to tell us what’s cool and trendy, feeding our addiction with each and every scroll. On a path to find balance and creative authenticity, Lorelei’s vulnerability and willingness to question the norm proves refreshing and relatable to listeners from around the world.
Born outside of Philadelphia, Lorelei was brought up in a suburb of Boston and now resides in Los Angeles, CA. The young pop artist has not only gathered over a million cumulative streams independently but has also drawn the likes of GRAMMY® Award-nominated songwriter JHart [Justin Bieber, Keith Urban, Usher] to her corner. During 2019, she made her debut with “Losing Myself,” amassing 131k Spotify streams and 109K YouTube views. On its heels, the breezy “Summertime High” drew 312K YouTube views. Co-written with Valerie Broussard [Kygo, Galantis], Stefan Lit [One Direction, Andy Grammar], and Shannon McArthur [Dashboard Confessional], “Dreamin About You” maintained her momentum with nearly 300K total on-demand streams. Lorelei’s music continues to defy both era and categorization. Lorelei’s music has been featured in Wonderland Magazine, LadyGunn, FLAUNT and many more.
