November 23, 2020 - Slated to release Friday, December 4th, pop star Annabel Jones unveils the captivating visual to her hit “Spiritual Violence”. The premiere track precedes her upcoming debut album “Forgiveness”, setting the tone for a supernatural journey through authentic storytelling. The experimental alt pop-rock track pulls inspiration from the idylls of her girlhood as they clash with adult reflections on her father’s magical appearances and disappearances. The video embraces a retro Katie Bush / Florence and the Machine vibe to paint the kaleidoscope visions of her past.
The daughter of legendary singer, actor and businessman Davy Jones of The Monkees, Annabel’s new music explores rather difficult themes surrounding his sudden death in 2012. Craving ultimate creative and emotional control, she recently co-founded her label ‘Headquarters’ to pursue her singular artistic vision without compromise. "It's taken me eight years to be able to write these songs, before it was far too painful." she says.
The new single explores themes of death, spiritualism and Freudian anxieties paired with a larger than life-like visual and vocal delivery. The resulting work is Jane Austen meets Studio 54; the arcadian meets dark disco. The lush 80’s aesthetic offers a lighter mood to some heavy yet relatable themes. The music video features Annabel in her car as it sits surrounded by city lights. The presence of the skeleton passenger gives a darker view into a very personal glimpse of Annabel’s push and pull with love and spirituality. The undeniably catchy hook surrounded by glittery synths and steady drum patterns deliver a danceable hit from beginning to end. Annabel has a unique way of being vulnerable while still remaining pleasantly mysterious. Her music will resonate with many as we explore stark contrasts of turbulent love and light.
